October is Fire Prevention Month!
We have some fun educational opportunities for all ages this month as we work together to prevent fires in our community. We appreciate local artist, Katie Feichtinger for creating a series of coloring pages to share and this first installment is all about making an emergency plan. Talk with your kids about who to call in an emergency and help them practice their home address.
The second printable is a coloring contest with another teachable moment to discuss fire prevention! We look forward to seeing the beautiful coloring pages and seeing what ideas kids have for preventing fires. Parental help is encouraged and we hope is a fun and educational discussion. The first 20 submissions will receive one of our junior patches!
Cooper Landing residents are dedicated to being firewise! We applaud this group effort and look forward to sharing findings from the Wildfire Research Team that recently conducted a parcel level survey of properties in our area. One thing we heard from you is that you would like more feedback about your home’s level of preparedness for fires. We are dedicating 2 upcoming training nights to conducting pre planning site visits for our community members upon request. We plan to offer this again in the spring if needed. Reach out to operations.cles@arctic.net or give the fire station a call at (907)595-1800 to put yourselves on the list!
